The model has been trained on millions of annotated photographs covering people, products, animals, vehicles, and everyday objects, which allows it to generalize across virtually any subject type.

When you upload an image, the AI first identifies the dominant foreground subject and then generates a precise alpha mask around it. Straight edges like product boxes receive clean, hard cutouts. Complex organic edges like hair, fur, and feathers are handled with alpha-channel precision — partially transparent pixels along the boundary create a natural-looking blend rather than jagged hard lines. Semi-transparent elements such as veils, glass, and smoke are detected and preserved with appropriate opacity levels.

The output is a PNG file with a fully transparent background. This means you can place the extracted subject on any new background — a solid color, a gradient, a photograph — without visible fringing or halos around the edges.

When you upload an image, it is transmitted over an encrypted connection to our secure servers, where the segmentation model runs on dedicated GPU hardware. Best Practices for Clean Results

While the AI handles most images well out of the box, following a few guidelines during photography and file preparation will consistently improve the quality of the extraction.

• High contrast helps: The subject and background should differ in both color and brightness. A dark product on a light surface is easier to separate than two similar tones. If you control the shooting environment, choose a backdrop that contrasts with the subject's dominant color.
• Lighting matters: Even, diffused lighting reduces hard shadows that can confuse the AI. A strong directional light creates a dark shadow near the base of the subject, and the model may classify that shadow as part of the foreground. Soft lighting from multiple angles minimizes this problem.
• Complex edges like hair and fur: The AI handles these well, but very fine wisps and individual stray hairs at the boundary may be lost. For portrait photography, shooting against a solid, strongly contrasting background gives the model the clearest signal for those delicate edges.
• Multiple subjects: The AI identifies all dominant foreground elements and keeps them together. A group photo will retain all people; a table of products will retain all items. If you only want one item, crop the image to isolate it before running the tool.
• Always download as PNG: PNG is the only common image format that supports an alpha transparency channel. If you save or convert to JPEG, the transparent areas will be filled with a white background automatically. Keep the PNG for compositing work, and only convert to JPEG for final delivery where transparency is not needed.
