Pinterest Image Sizes

Standard pins are 1000×1500 pixels (2:3 portrait). Pinterest's feed surfaces tall pins more prominently than short ones — a 2:3 pin takes up 50% more vertical space in the feed than a 1:1 square. Long pins beyond 2:3 (e.g. 1000×2100) get truncated in search results but show full height on the pin detail page. Idea Pins (Pinterest's answer to TikTok and Reels) use 1080×1920 (9:16) and behave more like Stories. They show first in the home feed for several days after posting, then rotate into the standard feed. Profile pictures display at 165×165 as a circle. Upload at 600×600 or larger for retina screens. The same picture appears at much smaller sizes in pin attribution and search results, so legibility at thumbnail sizes matters more than fine detail. Text overlays on pins are not just allowed but expected on Pinterest — pins with descriptive text consistently outperform image-only pins. Use bold, high-contrast fonts and keep text in the top third (where mobile thumbnails crop). Pinterest's OCR reads pin text and uses it for search relevance, so meaningful text earns extra reach. Pinterest re-encoding is gentler than Instagram or TikTok. JPEG at 85% quality usually survives intact. PNG with transparency is preserved for graphics with sharp text.
