TikTok Image Sizes

TikTok re-encodes every upload to its own compression profile. That means your image goes through compression at least twice: once when you save it, and again when TikTok processes it. The fix is to upload at exactly 1080×1920 (no larger) at 90-95% JPEG quality. Larger files get downscaled; smaller files get upscaled; 100% quality wastes bandwidth without surviving the re-encode. Photo Mode (slideshow) supports up to 35 images, each at 1080×1920. The first image determines whether viewers swipe through, so make it your strongest visual. TikTok adds UI overlays at the top and bottom — keep important content in the centre 80% vertically. Profile pictures display at 200×200 as a circle. Upload at 800×800 minimum even though TikTok crops down significantly — the higher resolution survives the platform's downscale better, especially for retina screens and the platform-generated thumbnails. Video covers (the thumbnail shown on your profile grid before the video plays) use the same 1080×1920 spec. Custom covers consistently outperform auto-selected frames — viewers decide whether to tap based on the cover alone. TikTok Shop product images are 800×800 minimum with a white background, separate from feed content. They behave more like Amazon listing images than TikTok feed content.
